This year the 20th anniversary of the PACKAGING OF THE YEAR 2014 contest was held.

This year the 20th anniversary of the PACKAGING OF THE YEAR 2014 contest was held.
Out of the exhibits submitted in the contest by OTK GROUP, a.s. two were successful. In the category of Food – Marila cremo Delicado, and in the category of Detergents – Stachema – Fungi spray.

Packaging of the year is an opportunity to introduce new packaging solutions, innovative materials or new applications of known technological solutions. Recent years saw a shift also to the packaging design. The contest is open not only for Czech but also for the foreign companies, which brings an opportunity especially to our Slovak neighbours who have a chance to present their creative abilities.
The jury, headed by Chairwoman Jana Lukešová, assesses the individual exhibits according to the given criteria. 59 packages signed up this year and 22 of them received the Packaging of the Year 2014 award.

Category: Food
Flexible packaging designed for 1 kg of coffee beans which is unique in its technological processing. The graphic art is printed on the packaging using rotogravure printing on the BOPP foil which is laminated by the metalized PET bottle foil and PE foil. Using a special matte foil during lamination and printing significantly changes the aesthetic looks of the packaging and distinguishes the final product from others. Technology: Rotogravure printing 8 colours, BOPP 20 + PET 12 MET + PE 70.
The packaging can be repeatedly closed using a runner. The funnel provides safe grip during dispensing. The built-in valve allows shortening of the process times of packing.
Category: Detergents
Shrink sleeve label for disinfectants in a very atypically shaped packaging of 0.5 l and 1 l. A great advantage of this label is utilizing the entire surface of the packaging. The art is printed on the back side thus preserving the gloss of the front side. The print is also protected against the effects of the chemical fill. A specific location of the glued seam is used for this type of packaging due to the precise placement of the graphic art on the final product in relation to the orientation of the spray attachment. Technology: Flexo printing, backside printing, 6B , PET 45 μ (75% shrinkage), gluing.
The hallmark of the competition is the packaging gala on November 26, 2014 in Aquapalace Hotel Prague, where the best creators of packaging receive their awards - glass trophies produced in the workshops of Jiří Vopat and young glassmaker Luba Bakičová.
